I’ve always had an appreciation for typography, especially in the sense that what ever it was you were trying to communicate could literally be done so with words, but in a visually appealing (and appalling) way. To this day, I’m still fascinated with type so you could understand my excitement for Typography I class this quarter.
In a generation where robotic beings rule the world (the humans are dead), it is beautiful (but so damn rare) to see handcrafted type anywhere anymore. 20 points to whoever can call out what I just did with that last sentence. Haha.
Anyway, last quarter my co-worker at CAB let me look through this book that caught my eye and appreciation for all things type and all things handmade – Hand Job: A Catalog of Type. Make sure you add the word “book” or “type” if you google search for this, by the way.
It’s hundreds of pages of nothing but hand-written and hand-drawn lettering in all different types of context and style. This book is hot – a real refreshment for a graphic designer in this day and age. But you don’t have to take my word for it! *ba-dum-ching!*
