MLK Week 2010

13 01 2010

Worked this MLK Week poster needed on campus. Initially thinking about what to do, I was gonna head for something sweet and solemn. But after looking at hella MLK posters, it was obvious that what the public knows about this man is two things: that he had a dream and that he was all about peace. His face and his name are apart of pop culture. No one focuses on his work with Malcom X, on his speeches closer to the Vietnam War, or that he even had other speeches other than “I Have a Dream”. And who is better suited to popularizing meaningful people into pop icons? My man Shepard Fairey, that fucker. So I decided to get my Fairey on and make the poster with that style, haha.

Enough is Enough!

8 12 2009

This post is a two-for. I get to show off my work (whose creative concepts were coupled by myself and my beau) and you get the opportunity to attend a free event for good cause. December 10th is International Human Rights Day and with the recent Maguindanao Massacre and the torture and abduction of Melissa Roxas earlier this year, awareness of these injustices and many others is needed now more than ever.

Tabi Tabi Po

11 11 2009

I found out about this art exhibition featuring Filipino and Filipino-Amerikan artists work centered around Filipino folklore – and a portion of the proceeds will be donated towards typhoon relief in the Philippines. If you are in the Bay Area or will be during November 13 – December 12, head out to 1:AM Gallery and check out the exhibit. There’s a lot of dope artists in the line up!

1:AM gallery presents “Tabi Tabi Po,“ a multidisciplinary group exhibition that explores the rich and colorful creatures of Filipino Folklore through Urban Contemporary art, featuring artists who are either Filipino or have Filipino ancestry. The Kapre, Manananggal, Dwende, Tikbalang, and Aswang are just a sampling of these haunting creatures that will be brought to life in this exhibit. This exhibit will explore the cultural significance of Filipino folklore- both myth and reality. It aims to explore the migration of native Filipino tradition, from its rural origins of the countrysides of the Philippines, to the urban cities of Metro Manila, and across the Pacific and Atlantic: the San Francisco Bay Area, the streets of Los Angeles, the Boroughs of New York, the beaches of Hawaii, and the mountains of Norway. Tabi Tabi Po will be a multi-media installation, incorporating sound, structures, murals, indigenous craftwork and, of course, original 2-d art.

A percentage of proceeds will be donated to relief efforts in the Philippines who have been affected by Typhoons Ondoy (Ketsana) and Pepeng (Parma). Donations will be going directly to the communities that have been most impacted by the Typhoons. Proceeds will go to BAYAN Philippines and BALSA (Bayanihan para sa Sambayanan / “People’s Cooperation for the People”) Relief Operation.

a designer/illustrator from the Philippines has dope work:

conass_smaller

I made this poster in protest to the recent move by our crazy congressmen to change the Constitution through an illegal Constitutional Assembly (CON ASS) here in the Philippines. They want to change our government system to Parliamentary so their Boss (our President) can become Prime Minister once her term is over. It’s a devious plan. It’s pretty sure that once we elect a new president… our current president will go to jail. So yea… I think this is a fitting protest poster for them.

8 Posters/Flyers in 17 Days

9 10 2009

That’s roughly a poster/flier every other day. I made the following posters/fliers in a span of 17 days, starting on September 21st to today, October 8th. As an artist, it is important that you are able to react to your surroundings and conditions as fast as time does and a lot has been happened these past 17 days.

Half of these upcoming events will be taking donations directly to Typhoon Ondoy relief efforts in the Philippines through BALSA (Bayanihan para sa Sambayanan, or “People’s Cooperation for the People”), a grassroots human rights advocacy organization in the Philippines that works directly with the most devastated areas and people affected by the Typhoon. Please be assured your donation will 100% guaranteed go to where it should be, in the hands of the people who need it the most. Learn more here: http://bayanusa.org/?page_id=252

Native Guns Reunion Set!!!

25 09 2009

Not only did I design the flier (last minute, mind you) but I am personally promoting the shit out of this show just because of the performers alone! October’s Filipino-American Heritage and History Month is just around the corner and nothing better than to hit up the Native Guns reunion set at Nectar Lounge in Seattle on October 11, along with more dope acts on the bill – all of whom are Filipino! Celebrate our culture and history through the music these artists produce. See you there!
